Frequently Asked Questions:

Photographers are artists, and like any artist we create off of how we see the world, and how we want the viewer (you) to feel! It’s best to find a photographer who is in alignment of what you’d like your photos to portray. I photograph and edit in a clean warm style, using Golden Hour session times to enhance the warmth of your overall photo.

Posing is also key to choosing your photographer. I love to give clients slight direction or prompts at the beginning of a pose, then allow you to MOVE in a lifestyle approach. In my view, movement like play and dance really bring out the best and most authentic moments. These moments are what will show emotion in your photos, and truly capture the magic of family or childhood.

No, I am a stylized photographer who works mainly with smaller intimate families and children. This type of photography is specialized, and we work together to get a bohemian outfit and prop styling to match your background. I do not photograph events, large families, or weddings, but can refer you to other photographers who do!

Sessions include three payments: A non-refundable retainer comes from your session fee which books and holds your date. It acts as a cancellation fee should you need to cancel your scheduled session. The remainder of the session fee (& gas reimbursement if applicable) is due on the day of the session.

The final payment will be your package price. Your package will be the final amount of professionally retouched digital images you will receive via a direct download and will be chosen once you check out your viewing gallery after your session.

Additional A la Carte images may also be purchased upon final gallery review and added onto your package total.

That’s what you have me for! I will guide you and your family into emotionally connective poses, asking you or your children questions or to simply love on your family members. Sometimes, the most genuine and heartfelt shots happen when you don’t realize you’re being photographed. Let me help relax you so that you get to enjoy the actual session, not just get through it!

One of the most common questions I get asked is how early should I book a session if I’m expecting? I suggest emailing me when you’re in your second trimester for the best availability. Newborn sessions are highly suggested to be booked while Mama is pregnant, using your due date as a guide to book your session between your newborn’s 5-15 day age range. I do take a limited amount of sessions per month to make sure we can move your session around if baby decides to come earlier or later than their scheduled delivery.

Great question! I always schedule a specific amount of newborn sessions each month to leave space for rescheduling if you should deliver earlier or later than your due date. Most of the time, your doctor’s due date will be within that age range we are booking (which is always why we like to set up your session towards the end of your 2nd trimester/beginning of 3rd when we get a better idea of a timeframe). In case of any changes from your doctor though, once you book you will be able to update me as you go, and if it looks like baby will be arriving earlier or later than expected, just email me when you find out so we can stay on top of moving your session to the best slot within 5-15 days old. The earlier you can keep me updated, the more availability we will have!

Yes. For health & safety while working together in the Studio, masks will be required for all adults who are not yet fully vaccinated.

This depends on the type of session you’re looking for, and the season you’re interested in booking! For Maternity/Family/Child/Milestone sessions, I usually suggest clients email me for any booking details about a month in advance, and earlier around any holiday season. Fall sessions do tend to book quickly each year, and always suggest emailing me in the Spring or Summer months to set up your Fall session!

The Golden Hour is the ultimate time to shoot outdoors here in Michigan. I always love this time of day, when the sideways light romantically falls across your location, giving a beautifully golden lit atmosphere to work in. This golden hour session time is dependent on the sun and month of year you’re looking to book. When planning your next child or family session, ask me what time the golden hour will be in the month you want!

Upon booking, we can collaborate on getting a cohesive styling for your entire family for your session. I can send lots of links for outfit ideas and inspiration! Feel free to ask for tips on outfits/accessories to use based on your specific type of session, season, and backdrop. I do photograph in a bohemian and rustic style, and can send over all the great Amazon and Shop suggestions.

Since Kiddos tend to be DONE with taking photos after about a half an hour, I cap my sessions at a 30-45 minute time frame so we can ensure your little one will give the best smiles. Cake Smash sessions have the option of UP TO 2 outfit choices for baby: one for their initial photos, and one for their cake smash portion. For family sessions, one outfit per individual will work best so we don’t lose your little one’s attention or energy with changing outfits or sets.

Editing time for all sessions is within 4 weeks from your last payment date. Complimentary sneak peeks are sent to you after sessions with a few images that you can use while the rest are being edited. All photos are copyright Amanda Abraham Photography, Inc.
